Johnstons of Elgin

Johnstons of Elgin has been spinning cashmere and fine wool on the River Lossie since 1797, making it one of the oldest textile mills in continuous operation in Britain. The mill on Newmill Road still produces the full range: cashmere scarves, throws, and knitwear sold in the on-site shop alongside the broader collection. Visitors are welcome and a mill tour runs most days, taking you through the production process from raw fibre to finished cloth — the clattering looms and the smell of lanolin are part of the appeal. The shop carries mill seconds and outlet prices alongside the full-price collection. Newmill Rd, Elgin.
