Spynie Palace

Ruined bishops' seat with massive medieval tower

A couple of miles north of Elgin on the Lossiemouth road, Spynie Palace is a substantial ruin dating from the 13th century that served as the seat of the Bishops of Moray for centuries. David's Tower, added in the 15th century, is one of the largest tower houses ever built in Scotland. The site is managed by Historic Environment Scotland and open to visitors for a small admission fee.
