Loch Thom and the Cut

Reservoir and historic aqueduct walk above Greenock, built to power the town's industrial growth.

Loch Thom and the Greenock Cut sit high above the Clyde, where engineering and moorland scenery meet. The reservoir and aqueduct system was built in the 19th century to bring water power to Greenock's mills and industry, and the remains now make one of the area's best walks.

The Cut path is the practical highlight: mostly level, open to wide views, and full of small details such as sluices, channels, and stonework. On a clear day you get the industrial history underfoot and the Firth of Clyde opening out below.
