Lyle Hill

Greenock viewpoint with wide Clyde panoramas, benches, and paths above the town.

Lyle Hill is the easiest place in Greenock to understand why the town looks outward. From the viewpoint the Firth of Clyde opens toward Gourock, Cowal, the Holy Loch, and, in clear weather, the island shapes farther downriver. It is a simple stop, but the view does a lot of work.

The hill can be reached by car along Lyle Road or on foot if you are willing to climb from town. The Free French Memorial is nearby, but the hill itself deserves time: benches, information points, and short paths let you linger rather than just take a photograph and leave. Sunset is especially good when the water catches the last light.
