Cairnpapple Hill

Cairnpapple Hill is a prehistoric ritual site with Bronze Age burials, early Christian graves, and a hilltop position that helps explain why people kept returning here for thousands of years. The main burial chamber is protected by a modern concrete dome, but the setting still feels open and old.

The site makes a good short excursion from Linlithgow if you are interested in Scotland before castles and royal palaces. On a clear day, the views across the central belt are part of the reward.
