Macduff Distillery

The Macduff Distillery sits at the southern edge of town, close to the River Deveron, and has been producing single malt Scotch whisky since 1962. It is not a grand Victorian distillery — the buildings are functional and industrial — but the whisky is genuine Highland single malt, sold primarily under the Glen Deveron label. Visitor tours are available, though less elaborate than the big Speyside operations an hour to the south and west.

For whisky travellers, Macduff is an off-the-beaten-track find: close to the tourist distillery trail of Speyside but quieter and less crowded. The surrounding area has several other distilleries within easy driving distance including Glendronach and Deveron. Contact the distillery directly to arrange a tour as the schedule is limited.

A story
The distillery was founded in 1962 and its whisky is sold almost entirely under the brand name Glen Deveron rather than Macduff — a deliberate marketing choice by the original owners to distance themselves from what was then an unknown town. The single malt has developed a loyal following among collectors but remains obscure enough that you can often find bottles at sensible prices.
