St Columba's Cathedral stands on Oban's north waterfront, looking across the bay toward Kerrera and the ferry routes beyond. Built of local granite in the 20th century, it has a sturdy Highland presence rather than the elaborate decoration many visitors expect from a cathedral.
The church is worth a pause both for the architecture and for its setting. Oban is often treated as a ferry town, but the cathedral, McCaig's Tower, and the seafront together show a more layered place: a small port with civic ambition, religious life, and one of the best natural harbours on the west coast.
