Beinn na Caillich (732 metres) is the highest of the Red Hills and the most accessible serious hill walk from Broadford. The route starts at Coire-chat-achan farm, a mile east of the village, and climbs steadily through open moorland and rough grass. The gradient is straightforward compared to the Black Cuillin — no scrambling, no exposure — making this a walk that rewards fit beginners as well as experienced hillwalkers.
The summit view on a clear day is one of the best on Skye: the Cuillin ridge to the west, the Sound of Sleat below, the mainland mountains of Knoydart and Torridon across the water, and on very clear days a glimpse of Ben Nevis. Allow four to five hours from Broadford for the return trip. Boots and waterproofs are essential regardless of the weather in the village — conditions change fast on the hills.
