The Skye Serpentarium is a small reptile house on Broadford's main road that has been charming rainy-day visitors since the 1990s. It holds a collection of snakes, lizards, frogs, and tortoises from around the world, with enough space and good labelling to make it worthwhile even if you're not normally a reptile enthusiast.
The atmosphere is relaxed and genuinely curious rather than theme-park commercial. On certain days handling sessions are available — an unexpected thrill for children and for adults who have never had a corn snake draped across their shoulders. Entry is inexpensive, and the tearoom attached to the building serves decent coffee. On the inevitable wet Skye day when the hills are socked in, this is a better option than sitting in your accommodation waiting for the weather to lift.
