Beaumaris Pier

The 173-metre Victorian pier was built in 1846 to serve steamer traffic from Liverpool and the Menai bridges, and rebuilt to its current length in 1895. It is one of the few surviving wooden piers in Britain and the only major pier on Anglesey, lined with traditional cast-iron lamps and a small kiosk at the seaward end.

Walk to the end for the classic view: the Menai Strait sliding past on the strong tides, the Penmon coastline curling north, and the peaks of Snowdonia rising directly opposite. Local boat operators run sea-life cruises and fishing trips from the pier in season, including short hops around Puffin Island where seals and seabirds are easily spotted.
