The RSPB Conwy nature reserve, at the mouth of the Conwy estuary just off the A55 near Llandudno Junction, is one of the most accessible birdwatching sites in north Wales. The reserve was created from land reclaimed during the construction of the A55 tunnel and now covers a mix of lagoons, reed beds, and grassland that attracts a substantial variety of waders and wildfowl.
In winter, the lagoons hold large numbers of teal, wigeon, and goldeneye, along with occasional rarities. In summer, breeding waders include lapwing, redshank, and oystercatcher. The hides are well-positioned and the paths are level, making it suitable for most mobility levels. It sits within ten minutes of Conwy town by car and is easy to combine with a morning in the walled town.
