The Great Orme Tramway is the only cable-hauled street tramway still operating in Britain, and one of only a handful in the world. It opened in 1902 to take visitors from Llandudno's Victoria Station up to the summit of the Great Orme, and has run essentially unchanged since.
The line is split into two separate cable-hauled sections, with a transfer at the Halfway Station. The lower section uses streets shared with cars (the only such operating street tramway in the UK), while the upper section runs on a dedicated track up the steeper part of the hill. The four original 1902 tramcars are still in use, with one replacement built in 1986. Each car carries about 50 passengers.
The journey to the summit takes about 20 minutes each way. It runs from late March to October, with departures every 20 minutes. The lower station is on Church Walks, a few minutes uphill from the town centre.
