Getting Around

The city centre is compact and easily walked end-to-end in twenty minutes. Most of the central sights are within ten minutes of Castle Square.

Bus. Swansea has a dense network of local buses run by First Cymru and several smaller operators. The bayfront service to Mumbles runs every few minutes during the day and is one of the most pleasant urban bus rides in Britain. Most services start or pass the central bus station on Plymouth Street.

Cycling. The Bay cycle path runs the full length of Swansea Bay from the Maritime Quarter to Mumbles — flat, traffic-free and spectacular. Bikes can be hired in the centre or in Mumbles. From the western end of the bay, the path continues into the Gower lanes.

Taxis. Easy to find around the train station, bus station, Wind Street and Mumbles. Cheaper than London but more expensive than they used to be.

Car. Useful for exploring the Gower, less so for the city centre, where parking is limited and one-way systems are confusing. Park-and-ride sites operate from the edges of the city on busy weekends.
