The Catholic church of St. Francis of Assisi is the largest church in Oranjestad, a yellow-painted building with a distinctive twin-tower facade that dominates its neighbourhood. It was built in the early 20th century on the site of an earlier mission church, and the adjacent San Francisco convent has been converted into a public space housing the National Archaeological Museum.
The church is an active parish and is not primarily a tourist site, but the architecture is striking and it is open during daylight hours. The interior is cool and simply decorated. It is a short walk north of the historic waterfront area, and makes a natural stop when visiting the archaeological museum next door.
