The hottest natural hot springs in the Canadian Rockies, Miette emerges from the ground at 54°C before being cooled to a swimmable temperature in two outdoor pools. The drive to get there — about 60km from Jasper through the remote Fiddle River Valley — is half the experience: a narrow road that winds past waterfalls, bighorn sheep on the cliffs, and the quiet impression that you are heading somewhere genuinely far from the crowds.
The springs are operated by Parks Canada and are open seasonally. The pools are nothing fancy — concrete and clean — but the setting is dramatic, with the mountains rising steeply on all sides. There is a short trail to the original source springs above the facility if you want to see the water emerging naturally at its full temperature, steaming in all but the hottest summer days.
