Henderson Place Mall is a smaller specialty shopping centre across the road from the much larger Coquitlam Centre. It opened in 1993 and was designed with an explicitly Chinese architectural theme — a red pagoda-style entrance, a central courtyard with a koi pond, and the tenant mix oriented toward the Chinese-Canadian community.
The mall has around 60 tenants. The Crystal Mall-style supermarket on the lower level is the best Chinese grocery in the Tri-Cities area; there is a substantial food court with regional Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Japanese stalls; and the upper level has a mix of Chinese herbal medicine shops, jewellers, gift retailers and a small Asian bookshop. Several tea houses and dim sum restaurants are clustered around the central courtyard.
The mall is a 3-minute walk from Coquitlam Central SkyTrain station. It is small enough to cover comfortably in an hour, but is a particularly good lunch stop for visitors interested in Asian food.
