Pulpit Rock is Nelson’s signature leg-stretcher: a short, steep trail that climbs the slope opposite town to a rock viewpoint over Kootenay Lake. The ascent is a workout rather than a wilderness expedition, with switchbacks through dry forest and regular glimpses back toward the water.
At the top, Nelson’s grid, orange roofs, lakeshore, and mountain backdrop line up in one easy panorama. Go early on hot days, bring water, and treat the trail as a proper hike despite its popularity; the reward is one of the best quick views in the West Kootenay.
