The Mackenzie Trail runs along the Columbia River from the south end of Revelstoke through the town's riverside park and out toward the bottomland wetlands. It is a flat, paved, multi-use path used by cyclists, walkers, and inline skaters throughout the summer, with views of the Columbia's broad bends, the mountains above, and the wetland birds that populate the river margins. Great blue herons, ospreys, and mergansers are common; in the right season bald eagles congregate on the river.
The trail is the main recreational spine of the town and connects to the river walk through Centennial Park. It is at its best in the evening when the light hits the mountains to the west and the river takes on a long golden reflection. Dogs welcome on a leash.
