Revelstoke Mountain Resort

North America's longest vertical ski resort with enormous snowfall and limited crowds

Revelstoke Mountain Resort sits directly above the town, with gondola access from the base lodge at the edge of downtown. The mountain offers over 3,000 acres of skiable terrain, some of it groomed but a large proportion left as natural glades and bowls that fill with the exceptional snowfall this part of the Selkirks receives. The snow here is dry and deep — maritime enough to get heavy accumulation, cold enough not to consolidate — making it some of the best powder skiing in Canada.

The resort is deliberately uncrowded: lift ticket numbers are capped, and the after-ski culture in town is low-key and local rather than the high-pressure resort-village atmosphere of Whistler or Banff. The ski-in/ski-out development at the mountain base is still limited. Revelstoke rewards the skier who wants terrain and snow over nightlife and amenities.

Cat skiing and heli-skiing operations in the surrounding mountains extend the options even further. Several operators run multi-day cat skiing packages from lodges deep in the Selkirk backcountry.

A story
Revelstoke Mountain Resort has the longest vertical drop in North America — 1,713 metres from peak to base — and averages over 10 metres of snowfall per year. It opened in 2007, later than most major western resorts, and has deliberately limited day passes to avoid the crowds that have overwhelmed Whistler and Banff.
