The Discovery Centre near Woody Point is the best indoor primer for Gros Morne's geology, ecology, and human history. It is worth visiting before the Tablelands if you want the landscape to make more sense.
It also works as a weather backup, which matters in this park. Do not dismiss it as a visitor-centre chore; the interpretation is genuinely useful.
