Eating Out in Yellowknife

Yellowknife punches above its size for dining. Arctic char, bison, caribou, and muskox appear on menus across town, reflecting the northern landscape as much as any dish in Canada. The Wildcat Cafe in Old Town is the sentimental favourite, but the downtown core has several good restaurants.

The Bulllock's Bistro on Lessard Drive is one of the best fish restaurants in the North, specializing in lake trout and Arctic char cooked simply and well. Ava's Restaurant, connected to the Explorer Hotel, is the city's most upmarket dining room. Most restaurants close relatively early, and a few are seasonal — check ahead in winter.
