Ingraham Trail

The Ingraham Trail (Highway 4) runs 70 kilometres east of Yellowknife through the boreal shield landscape of lakes, granite outcrops, and spruce forest. It is the main recreational corridor for the city — a road that leads to campgrounds, canoe routes, fishing spots, and wilderness hiking, all within an hour of downtown. The scenery is classic subarctic Canada: clean and spare, with water visible almost everywhere.

Key stops include Cameron Falls, a pretty cascade about 30 kilometres along the road, and Prelude Lake Territorial Park, with campgrounds and canoe rentals. The trail ends at Tibbit Lake, where the winter ice road system begins, extending hundreds of kilometres north to diamond mines in the Lac de Gras area. In summer, the trail is driveable in a standard car; in autumn it becomes a premier destination for berry picking.
