Bracebridge is the administrative heart of Muskoka, but it feels more like a river town than a county seat. The North Branch Muskoka River cuts through the centre, dropping over falls beside old brick buildings, bridges, and the power works that helped shape the town.
The reason to stop is water. Bracebridge Falls sits almost in the middle of town, while Wilson's Falls and High Falls make a short waterfall circuit north of the centre. It is easy, scenic, and very Muskoka: granite, pine, tannin-brown river water, and enough walking to make lunch feel earned.
Bracebridge also has a small run of heritage buildings, including Woodchester, a concrete octagon house overlooking the river. It is not the grandest town in cottage country, but if you are already in Muskoka and have a spare day, Bracebridge gives you a good mix of falls, short hikes, and local history without needing a boat.
