Named after the journalist who started the festival, the Tom Patterson is a long, narrow venue on the riverside that reopened in a sleek new building in 2021. The architecture is the most striking in town — a low ribbon of glass and Carolina pine that wraps around the original 1908 pavilion at one end.
The auditorium is a long thrust stage with the audience on three sides — closer to the action than at the Festival Theatre, and well suited to the chamber Shakespeare and new work that often programmes here.
