Place des Arts, opened in 2022, is the cultural hub of Sudbury's francophone community — a striking modern building of concrete, glass, and steel containing a 300-seat theatre, a black-box performance space, an art gallery, a bistro, and the offices of seven different francophone arts organisations.
The architecture by Yallowega Bélanger Salach is the immediate draw, but the programming is what gives the place its life: French-language theatre, music, dance, and a steady stream of community events. The cafe and gallery are free to visit, and the building is worth wandering through even if there is nothing on the bill.
