Saint-Elie-de-Caxton is a small Mauricie village with an outsized place in Quebec's imagination. Storyteller and musician Fred Pellerin set many of his tales here, and the village has leaned into that reputation with a culture garage, guided walks, and a gently theatrical sense of local myth.
This is not a checklist town. It is a place for travellers who like small villages with a clear voice: a church and Calvary hill, forested lakes, performances, public art, and local stories that turn ordinary corners into characters.
It makes the most sense as a slow detour from Shawinigan, Trois-Rivieres, or La Mauricie National Park. Give it a few hours, check whether anything is on at the Garage de la Culture, and leave time to walk the village rather than just drive through.
