Grand Cayman has a public minibus service, but routes and schedules are erratic. Renting a car is the practical choice if you want to explore beyond Seven Mile Beach and George Town. Rental agencies are at the airport and at most major hotels. You need a local driving permit (around US$7.50, issued by your rental agency) in addition to your home license. You must be at least 21. Traffic moves on the left.
Taxis are metered and available at the airport and in George Town, but they get scarce the farther you travel from the capital. Rideshare apps don't operate here. Bicycles and scooters can be hired and are a reasonable option given that the island is flat and not large. A ferry runs between the North Sound and Rum Point, taking about 40 minutes.
Between the islands, Cayman Airways operates the only scheduled service. Flights from Grand Cayman to Cayman Brac take about 30 minutes; the hop between Cayman Brac and Little Cayman is around seven minutes. There is no ferry between Grand Cayman and the sister islands. Private boat operators can shuttle between Cayman Brac and Little Cayman for around US$20.
On Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, rental cars and bicycles are essentially the only options. Neither island has taxis or public transport. Most hotels will arrange airport transfers.
