Playa Bonita is the closest proper beach to Puerto Limón, about 4 km north-west of the town centre on the road towards Moín. A small bay curves between two rocky headlands, the sand is dark and coarse, and the swell is strong enough to draw the city's surfers when the wind is right. There are simple sodas and changing rooms behind the beach.
This is a local beach rather than a tourist one — busy at weekends with Limón families, quieter midweek. The water can be rough; pay attention to the rip currents marked by signs at either end. A taxi from town runs around 3,000–4,000 colones, and any Moín-bound bus will drop you at the turn-off.
