Savegre River Rafting

The Savegre River runs east of Quepos through a valley of forest and coffee farms before descending toward the coast. It is one of Costa Rica's better whitewater rivers, with sections ranging from class II (gentle and suitable for families) to class III–IV (proper rapids requiring some experience). Most operators run the easier sections as half-day trips departing from Quepos, about 45 minutes from Manuel Antonio.

The river valley is also excellent for wildlife: resplendent quetzals have been spotted in the upper Savegre cloud forest, and the lower sections pass through good birding habitat. The combination of rafting and scenery makes it one of the better day trips from Manuel Antonio for active travellers.
