Refugio Monteverde is a small wildlife refuge on the edge of Santa Elena running guided night tours — adults around forty-five dollars, children less — with guides certified by the tourism institute. Groups are capped, and they ask you to book on WhatsApp rather than turning up.
A night tour here is a better bet than the big reserve after dark, simply because there are fewer torches in the forest.
