Monteverde invented the canopy tour, and the ziplines are still the town's biggest business. Beyond them, the three reserves — Monteverde, Santa Elena and Curi-Cancha — can all simply be walked into, and a guide is what turns a quiet green walk into a day where you see things.
The night tour is the one people are most surprised by. Quetzal season runs roughly February to July. Book anything for the morning: the cloud generally comes in after lunch.
