The Wilson Botanical Gardens, just 6 km south, is the obvious excursion from San Vito — close enough to visit in a morning and rich enough to fill a full day if you're serious about birds or plants. Beyond that, the southern zone of Costa Rica has very little tourist infrastructure, which makes it good territory for independent exploration but means you'll need your own transport for most forays.
