Eating Out

Las Terrenas punches well above its weight for food. The French and Italian expat communities brought their kitchens with them, and the Dominican seafood is as fresh as it gets — fish comes straight off the boats on the beach. You can eat excellent wood-fired pizza, proper crêpes, or a plate of grilled dorado with tostones, all within a few blocks of each other.

The best eating is along the beach road and the pedestrian stretch of El Paseo. For cheap, filling Dominican food, look for the comedores on the side streets off Calle Duarte — rice, beans, and chicken for a couple of dollars. The seafood restaurants along Playa Las Terrenas are pricier but worth it for a sunset meal with your feet nearly in the sand.
