The beaches are the main draw, but Las Terrenas has enough going on to fill the days between swims. Playa Cosón and Playa Bonita are worth visiting even if your hotel is on the main beach. The surrounding hills hide waterfalls reachable by horseback or hiking, and the Samaná Peninsula's humpback whale season (January through March) is one of the best wildlife spectacles in the Caribbean.
