Laguna Limón

Laguna Limón is a coastal lagoon just south of Miches, separated from the sea by the narrow beach strip of Playa Limón. The lagoon is home to herons, egrets, and frigatebirds, and local fishermen work its shallow waters from dugout canoes. It is possible to hire a boat from Miches or from the fishing families near the lagoon to explore the mangroves and birdwatch for an hour or two.

The area around the lagoon is part of a protected zone that also covers Laguna Redonda to the north. Together the two lagoons form a significant wetland on this stretch of the Dominican northeast coast, though neither is managed for tourism and facilities are minimal.
