Montana Redonda

Montana Redonda is a rounded hill rising above the valley north of Miches, reachable by a combination of road and a short mule or foot ascent. At the summit — around 500 metres — there are several rope swings and a platform from which you can look out across Samaná Bay, the Cordillera Oriental, and the patchwork of palm groves below.

It is best visited early morning before cloud builds around the summit. Tour operators in Miches and nearby towns offer guided excursions that combine Montana Redonda with the coastal lagoons. The site has become popular enough that it gets busy at weekends, but weekday mornings are relatively quiet.

A story
The swing at Montana Redonda's summit became an internet sensation around 2017, when photographs of people swinging over the valley with Samaná Bay in the distance spread widely on social media. Local entrepreneurs had already been bringing tourists up by mule for years before the swing made it famous.
