St. George's has a decent range of places to eat for a small Caribbean capital. The best concentrations are around the Carenage and along the waterfront, where small restaurants serve local fish and the kind of Creole cooking that Grenada does particularly well. Oil down — a one-pot stew of breadfruit, salted meat, and coconut milk that is the national dish — appears on most menus; it's heavy, starchy, and deeply satisfying on a hot day. The local Carib lager is brewed on the island.
