La Désirade has one road running along its southern coast, connecting the ferry dock at Grande-Anse to the other villages and to Souffleur beach at the southwestern end. The island is small enough to walk end to end in a few hours, and cycling the full road takes less than an hour at a gentle pace.
Rental bicycles and scooters are available in Grande-Anse — ask at your guesthouse or at the ferry dock when you arrive. There is no car rental; the road is short enough that a car would be more inconvenience than asset. A scooter gives you the flexibility to stop wherever the view demands it, which on the northern cliffs is frequently.
The ferry dock is in the centre of Grande-Anse, and from there everything in the main village is on foot. The beaches and the iguana reserve are reachable on a bicycle in twenty minutes. On a quiet island this is about the right speed to be moving.
