Bars and Cafes

The bar scene on Marie-Galante is informal and local. Rum punches (ti' punch — white rum, cane syrup, a squeeze of lime) are the standard order, and the quality of the local rum means even a simple bar serves something memorable. Grand-Bourg's seafront square has a cluster of bars that liven up on weekend evenings. There is no nightlife to speak of in the urban sense — the island winds down early — but the atmosphere around the waterfront and at distillery tasting rooms more than compensates.
