Distillerie Capesterre (Poisson)

The Capesterre distillery — often called Poisson after the family that runs it — is the smallest and most artisanal of Marie-Galante's three distilleries. It sits near the town of Capesterre on the south-east of the island, a working farm distillery with an informal, family atmosphere. The rums here tend to be more intensely flavoured and less polished than Bielle or Bellevue — devotees argue that's exactly the point. Visits are less structured than at the bigger distilleries; you may simply end up in the yard with someone who pulls a bottle off a shelf.
