Getting There

Mundo Maya International Airport (FRS) sits just outside Santa Elena on the mainland, ten minutes from the island by tuk-tuk. Avianca and TAG run daily flights from Guatemala City (about an hour each way); a few weekly Belize City flights operate seasonally. Book ahead in dry season — the planes are small.

Overland from Guatemala City takes 8–10 hours by overnight bus along a long, mostly empty highway. ADO has direct service from Mexico into Belize and onwards. Tourist shuttles from Belize City (4 hours), San Ignacio (2 hours), Palenque in Mexico (8 hours), and Lanquin (8 hours) drop and collect at hotels on the island. The Tikal shuttle is the usual onward connection — see Getting Around.
