Flores is the base, not the destination. The main reason to be here is to head out to Tikal, Yaxha, or the other Maya sites in the Peten. On the island itself the highlights are short: the lake, the cathedral and plaza at the top of the hill, a couple of viewpoints, and a circuit of the island on the lakeside path.
