Along the shores of the Rio Dulce, natural hot springs seep from the limestone cliffs, mixing with the cooler river water at the base. The springs are most concentrated in the gorge section between Rio Dulce town and Livingston, where the canoe operators and lanchas will stop on request.
Most boats traveling the full Rio Dulce route stop at the main hot spring access point, where a short walk leads to a small waterfall of warm water — the incongruous sight of genuinely hot water pouring into a cool tropical river. Arrange with your lancha driver in advance to include the stop.
