Parque Central

Comayagua's central park is one of the more handsome main squares in Honduras — shaded by trees, ringed by colonial buildings, and presided over by the cathedral's massive facade. The park is the social center of the city and the natural starting point for any walk through the historic center.

Benches are occupied at all hours; the morning brings market activity on the surrounding streets. The park is also where the famous alfombra (sawdust carpet) processions are staged during Semana Santa — elaborate multi-colored designs created over days and then walked over in the Easter procession, destroyed in the moment of their completion.
