Triunfo de la Cruz

Triunfo de la Cruz is a Garifuna village a few kilometres east of Tela, founded by the Garifuna people on their forced arrival from the Caribbean island of Roatán in 1797. The dirt streets, painted wooden houses, and Caribbean cooking sit right on the beach.

Order a casabe (cassava flatbread) and a tapado seafood soup from one of the family-run beachfront restaurants. On Sunday afternoons there is often punta drumming. The Patron Saint Festival in early May is the biggest local event of the year.
