The dry months — February to May — are the best for visiting Tela. Skies are clearer, the sea is calmer, and the bird life in Lancetilla is at its most active. Temperatures stay around 28–30°C year-round.
The rainy season runs from September through January and can be heavy, especially in November when the trailing edge of the Caribbean storm season still reaches the north coast. Even in the wet season the rain usually comes in afternoon bursts.
The biggest local event is the Feria de San Antonio in mid-June, with parades, music, and Garifuna drumming groups from the surrounding villages.
