Trujillo's beach is its most-loved feature: a wide curve of soft yellow sand running for several kilometres east and west of the town centre, with the calm bay rarely getting more than a metre of swell. Coconut palms line the back of the beach; small champas (palm-shaded thatch shelters) serve cold beer and grilled fish all day. Hammocks for hire.
The most popular stretch is just below the central plaza, where a row of beach restaurants sits directly on the sand. West toward Santa Fe the beach is quieter, the water shallower, and the swimming better; east the beach narrows and eventually becomes more remote and undeveloped. Sunsets, with the sun dropping behind the western headland, are particularly good.
