The restaurant scene in Ocho Rios runs heavily toward resort dining and tourist-facing Jamaican food — jerk chicken, grilled fish, rice and peas, and festival (fried dough). Quality varies considerably. The best eating tends to happen away from the main tourist strip: local jerk shacks along the roadside and a handful of independent restaurants serve noticeably better food at lower prices than the hotel dining rooms. The fish markets along the waterfront sell fresh catches daily, and several casual spots nearby cook it simply and well.
