Things to Do

Ocho Rios is the cruise-ship hub of Jamaica's north coast, and its main draws are outdoors. Dunn's River Falls — a terraced limestone waterfall that tumbles 180 metres to the beach — is the classic excursion: visitors form human chains and climb the falls in organised groups, accompanied by guides. Shaw Park Gardens, set on a hilltop with sea views, offers 25 acres of tropical planting. Fern Gully is a short stretch of road canopied by over a hundred species of fern, giving a taste of rainforest without a hike. The Green Grotto Caves, between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, are a large karst system with an underground lake; the caves were used as a hiding place by Spaniards during the English takeover in the 17th century. The town craft market near the waterfront has around 200 stalls.
