Evita's Italian Restaurant

Evita's is a long-running Italian restaurant set in a converted Victorian house on the hill above Ocho Rios, with a terrace overlooking the bay. The menu covers pasta, seafood, and pizza, with Jamaican ingredients woven in — jerk chicken pasta, lobster prepared several ways, and local fish with Italian treatment. The cooking is competent rather than revelatory, but the setting is one of the best in town, and the wine list is longer than you'd expect.

It functions well as a break from jerk and rice and peas, and the combination of a cool hillside location, sea views, and a more relaxed pace than the tourist-strip restaurants makes it a reasonable splurge. Reservations are advisable in the evenings. The walk up from town is steep; a taxi is easier.
